Quartet condensation and isovector pairing correlations in N = Z nuclei

چکیده
We propose a simple quartet condensationmodel (QCM)which describes with very high accuracy the isovector pairing correlations in self-conjugate nuclei. The quartets have an α-like structure and are formed by collective isovector pairs. The accuracy of the QCM is tested forN = Z nuclei for which exact shell model diagonalizations can be performed. The calculations are done with two isovector pairing forces, one extracted from standard shell model interactions and the other of seniority type, acting, respectively, upon spherical and axially deformed single-particle states. It is shown that for all calculated nuclei the QCM gives very accurate values for the pairing correlations energies, with errors which do not exceed 1%. These results show clearly that the correlations induced by the isovector pairing in self-conjugate nuclei are of quartet type and also indicate that QCM is the proper tool to calculate the isovector proton-neutron correlations in mean field pairing models.

Pairing and alpha-like quartet condensation in N=Z nuclei
We discuss the treatment of isovector pairing by an alpha-like quartet condensate which conserves exactly the particle number, the spin and the isospin. The results show that the quartet condensate describes accurately the isovector pairing correlations in the ground state of systems with an equal number of protons and neutrons. One of the most debated topic in nuclear physics is the competitio...

We perform Shell Model Monte Carlo calculations to study pair correlations in the ground states of N = Z nuclei with masses A = 48 − 60. We find that T = 1, J π = 0 + proton-neutron correlations play an important, and even dominant role, in the ground states of odd-odd N = Z nuclei, in agreement with experiment. By studying pairing in the ground states of 52−58 Fe, we observe that the isovector...
متن کاملRotations in isospace: a doorway to the understanding of neutron-proton superfluidity in N = Z nuclei.
The T = 2 excitations in even-even N = Z nuclei are calculated within the isospin cranked mean-field approach. The response of pairing correlations to rotation in isospace is investigated. Whereas the isovector pairing rather modestly modifies the single-particle moment of inertia in isospace, the isoscalar pairing strongly reduces its value. This reduction of the isomoments of inertia with res...
متن کاملPairing and isospin symmetry in proton-rich nuclei
Unlike their lighter counterparts, most odd-odd N = Z nuclei with mass A > 40 have ground states with isospin T=1, suggesting an increased role for the isovector pairing interaction. A simple SO(5) seniority-like model of this interaction reveals a striking and heretofore unnoticed interplay between likeparticle and neutron-proton isovector pairing near N = Z that is reflected in the number of ...
متن کاملN = Z nuclei in terms of isovector pairing
A systematic investigation of the rotating N = Z even-even nuclei in the mass A = 58 − 80 region has been performed within the frameworks of the Cranked Relativistic Mean field, Cranked Relativistic Hartree Bogoliubov theories and cranked Nilsson-Strutinsky approach. Most of the experimental data is well accounted for in the calculations. The present study suggests that there is strong isovecto...
